A Smokey New York City Night

One of the best albums of 2009 is the little heard *Extended Play* by Curly Jefferson and His Orchestra on the netlabel Dedpop. Mr. Jefferson and his bandmates return in 2011 with *“Oh La La!!”* and immediately take us back the smokey nightclubs of New York of the 30s and 40s. The album opens up with “Blame Me Boy” which samples the “Put the Blame on Mame” from the film Gilda (youtube). Like its predecessor, *“Oh La La!!”* is filled with retro goodness, sort of Duke Ellington with two turntables and a microphone. Both of the records are mandatory and should be played at your next cocktail party. Now excuse me as my Manhattan needs a refill.
